My New Year's Eve

I've been so busy these days in my holidays that I couldn't almost post. I'd like to introduce you my outfit for today. In the picture seems weird, but I really love it when you wearing it. I am not wearing jacket so I've decided to wear this scarf just in case it's cold in the morning (I don't expect to arrive before 10 a.m. hihi), I bought the dress last summer in UK, it was from a collection Giles Deacon did for the high-street store New Look. All the accessorizes are violet because I just love that colour and today was the perfect occasion to show it.
I wish all you a very very Happy New Year;) and have fun today.
*And sorry about the bad quality of the pic, but I am really in a hurry and I couldn't do it any better.

The cool ones club: Laura Ponte

Laura Ponte, former top-model who became recently niece-in-law of Juan Carlos, King of Spain, is one of the coolest women in Spain. She is part of the Spanish aristocracy now, and she was the image of Loewe. She is one of this XXI century superwoman who is able to have children, working as a model, having a good relation with the press, earning her own money and being always fabulous.

Christmas under the sun

This year I am spending my Christmas holidays in Canary Islands. They are the most exotic place in Spain. The beaches are incredibly and despite in my home city they are now at 2 or 3ºC, here in Tenerife the temperature is never under 20ºC, so probably I will go to the beach! My madness about travelling (almost so strong as my madness about fashion) has told me to share this pics with you.

*Playa de las Teresitas, Sta. Cruz de Tenerife

When I was in the plane, I remember when I was a child, and travelling by plane was so fashionable. The personal treated you as you were a really important person, they gave you sweets (for free) at the end of the travel... Now everybody is going in jeans and trainers (if you are lucky) because if not, they are going in tracksuits. My God! and the queues... It's just the hell, and despite all these things, I arrived to the airport only to find out that my suitcase was broken, it was 9 p.m., so the shops were closed, finally, I could packed with this security plastic, after begging the boy to do it because he wanted to close, but eventually, he did it, so I could travel with my clothes safe.

Famous Spanish-born architect, Santiago Calatrava, designed the Tenerife's Auditorium. It's lovely, especially at night. It's one of my favourites buildings ever. So dramatic, and at the same time, so appropiate, the sea is behind it, so I guess this great curve is a kind of wave, it has been built in the perfect place. Next to this building is going to take place the New Year's Eve party of Ministry of Sound, probably the one we are going to, but we don't know yet.

Here it's also the highest mountain in Spain, el Teide, in fact, it's a volcano, but is has been inactived since a really long time ago, so it's not dangerous. It's incredibly the climate they had here, in fourty kilometres you can go to the beach, or to the snow. I stronly recommend you to visit this island if you have the chance.

Three "tagging" questions

1)I've been tagged by t38 and I have to answer three kind-of-Christmas questions. As today it seems I am suffering from imsonmia, I've decided to do it now. The first question is what would be the best present for me this Christmas -and any other-, obviously:
Mary Janes by Mr. Blahník

2)The worst present someone could possibly make me would be a present without any care, you know those presents you are sure they bought for you in the last moment and without thinking about it? Those are the ones I normally don't like.

3)If I could choose any designer dress for New Years Eve, which one would I choose? My conclusion is that I could not choose only one. I guess it depends on the event, so I'd probably wear:

-For a night with friends in a wear-what-you-want party:
Bottega Veneta
I love this dress for New Year's Eve because it's stunning, the colour is flattering, and the skirt's length is interesting.

-For an elegant, classic and chic soirée:

Valentino Haute Couture

Givenchy Haute Couture

Christian Lacroix Haute Couture

-For a red carpet New Year's Eve

Elie Saab Haute Couture De la Renta (s/s '08)

New Year's Eve Series- 5

I think going to a dress code party is probably one of the worst problems you can ever have, even on New Year's Eve. I hadn't published yet a long dress, and due to we don't have too much to choose from - I mean at affordable prices - I have chosen this one, designed by Penélope Cruz for Spanish brand Mango. The quality is not the best, but it can save you for a reasonable price. The silhouette is not tight, really important taking into account the kilos you normally put on during Christmas.
I love those earrings, I think they contribute an edgy side to the elegant outfit. I am in love with that sandals since the moment I saw them, they remind me a lot Jimmy Choo's, and only for 90 pounds!

*Total - 338 pounds

Missing you

The same day as today, the 14th of December but last year, I was in London, checking out the Christmas lights, and waiting impatient to come back to Spain for Christmas. I spent last academic course in England to improve my English. I've learnt a lot there, not only about Anglo-Saxon culture, but also about life. I met loads of different people from a lot of countries, it was one of the best experiences of my life.
I can say since then, I am a different person, maybe I am the same person, but I see things differently, I'm more open-minded. I think this one is the best pic I have from that day, the Christmas tree, the Big Ben and the London Eye. Probably for the Londoners who read this blog the pic is too typical, but a day like today I miss being near of this fantastic city which has everything to offer, and which does not ask you where are you from.
*This pic has been taken by me the 14-12-06
I know this post is totally illogical in a fashion blog, but today, I just want to wish you Merry Christmas, and I think the best way is sharing one of my best memories from the last Christmas with all you.

The cool ones club: Penélope Cruz

Penélope Cruz has received last week the Gold Medal from the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, in NYC. The Queen of Spain, Sofia, has given her the medal for helping to spread the Spanish culture, Bill Clinton had also his. The best of NYC high society was there, including De la Renta, designer who wore Pe for the ocassion.

*Pic from EL PAÍS - Penélope, Queen Sofia and Oscar de la Renta

Penélope Cruz is the most international Spanish actress of our times. She has been nominated to an Oscar in the last edition for his role in Almodovar's film "Volver". I guess all these recent changes in her life have helped her to cultivate her style. She is still the simple and natural girl she used to be in the late '90, but the names on the tags of her garments has changed. She never risks in fashion, but she is always cool and chic. She perfectly represents the Mediterranean culture -despite she is from Madrid-. Her natural elegance and her sweet smile crowned her as the cool one girl of the month.

She didn't win, but she wore THE DRESS of the last Oscars.

I personally think this Atelier Versace is one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen.

Chanel Haute Couture is among her favourite red carpet's choices:

De la Renta is in her A-list too:

I am in love with this De la Renta coat which is still in net-a-porter, unfortunately, I can't afford it :(!

The first time I saw this Dior dress I thought, "Mmm, I think I could get married with that one"

Her particular face

She has participated in charity campaigns, like this one, to help fighting against the AIDs:

She also took part in the 2006 prestigious Pirelli calendar

It is said to have a relationship with Spanish actor Javier Bardem. They already worked together ten years ago in the high-sexual-content film: "Jamón, jamón":

New Year's Eve Series- 4

This proposal it's thought for someone who is willing to be the center of attention. The sequined dress is certainly eye-catching and its length only flatters long legs owners. The knee high boots are the cool answer to the knee high tights, widespread this winter all around, and special for those who suffer cold winters. The bag is actually a whim, Judith Leiber has some original and beautiful pieces, and I think the clutch relaxes the bad-girl look that knee-high boots give to the outfit. I guess it only could be hoop earrings, I can't imagine it with any other, but of course, I accept suggestions.

Swarovski is everywhere

I've always loved Swarovski crystals. They are beautiful. This month Elle Spain offers the possibility of buying a luxury issue -which of course I've bought-. Normally it's 3 euros, but this one costs 6 euros:

The letters are covered by little and lovely Swarovski crystals, and it is presented as a book, with hard covers. I've never read a hard cover magazine, and it's fantastic!

Of course it's a limited edition for collectors.

Harper's Bazaar US apparently has the same estrategy. In their website they offer a competition to win one of the 50 crystallized issues for collector.

Swarovski has recently launched a line in the gadgets world, offering fashion-forward usb/necklaces to carry your pics, and essays around:

Their capacity is 1 GB, and they are perfect if you are like me and you lose everything.

He deserves it

He was the first prodigious guy of the fashion world. The charismatic Argelia-borned designer, Yves Saint Laurent, has been award winner this week with the France's Legion of Honor Medal. I supposed most of you already know it, but my inner journalist told me to write something about it, and I couldn't say no.

The 71-year-old fashion genius got the award from the President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, last Thursday in the designer's house.
He is best-known for making the smoking a femenine outfit, and for being the most promising disciple of the master, Christian Dior.

His smart sense of elegance, reflected in one of her successful suits.

Probably his most revealing design, and the better example of his creativity.

Optical glasses: why not?

There is a Yiddish proverb which says "the eyes are the mirror of the soul". Your look is an external representation of who you are, and that's why choosing trendy and appropiate optical glasses is very important.
Prescription glasses reveal a huge part of a woman's personality: serious, responsible, edgy, introvert or without complexes.

Fashion does not pay a strong attention to prescription glasses, and I don't get it, because thousands of women wear them every day. Trends are homogeneous in the sense that the cool ones are made with acetate in most of the cases, changing the colour and the shape. Searching for this post I found the most funny and trendy glasses ever:

The classical Ray Ban WayFarer

Other brands also bet on the shell texture, such as Bvlgari:

or Chanel:

Red glasses are only for extrovert and daring girls who love to be observed

My favourite pair are this ones from Chanel

Versace has ones too, obviously, they look lovely on Kate Moss

It's necessary to point out the transparent frames, as a rising model:

A Chanel number

Ray-Ban has already theirs:

Betting on the classics, brown is the best option. Not as simply as black, but still chic and easy to combine:

Chanel:

Bvlgari:

Scojo NY at Saks Fifth Avenue

Chanel always manage to find a combination between elegant, trendy, and chic:

This ones are from Versace, and they are the ones I am wearing at the moment:
