The clothes of our lives: tights

Tights are a cult piece for a huge number of women due to they liberated women from the labours of suspenders, stockings and slips. As the mini skirt, tights become available in the Sixties. With the invention of nylon in the Thirties, the nylon stockings became the affordable alternative to the silk stockings. The first nylon stocking appeared in New York stores in 1940, and the first year, sixty four million pairs were sold, only in the United States. In the Sixties, with the advent of the mini skirt, an alternative to the stockings were required, and tights were the answer. Within to years they had seventy per cent market share. At the moment, more women choose to go bare legged, but during the winter tights are still a first necessity garment.

Las medias son una pieza de culto para un gran número de mujeres. Teniendo en cuenta que nos han liberado de las ligas, no se merecen menos. Como la minifalda, las medias comenzaron a estar disponibles para la mayoría en los Sesenta. El invento del nylon en los años Treinta provocó que las medias de este material se convirtieran en la alternativa barata a las medias de seda. Las primeras medias de nylon aparecieron en las tiendas de Nueva York en 1940, y el primer año se vendieron sesenta y cuatro millones de pares, solo en Estados Unidos. La minifalda sirvió además de impulso a esta nueva prenda. Ahora mismo las medias se llevan el 70% del nicho de mercado. Por el momento, y con la llegada de la primavera aún más, somos muchas las que decidimos ir con las "piernas al aire", pero en invierno las medias/leotardos son una prenda de primera necesidad.
