The death of the "it-bag" and the birth of the eye-catching shoe

Last night while I was reading the supplement of the April issue of Vogue Spain, I got to think about "it-bags". How fast and quietly they have disappeared! Probably they are waiting their time to come back or maybe they are gone forever. Who knows. That's what I like most about fashion. You can't predict what's going to happen next (at least if you are not Miuccia). But you can see what's going on at the moment. It is likely that due to the recession (I hate that word, trust me) magazines are focusing on basic garments and shoes. Now it's all about the shoes! I've never been a "it-bag-girl", I am more in the shoes side, and well, this is fantastic!

We all are invited to the funeral of the it bags:

Spy bag, Stam bag, Paddington, Babe, Roxanne... it doesn't matter the name, they are all over. Is it the mass media fault?

i totally agree. something about the it bag seems so lame and unnecessary. although i did have a crush on the paddington for some time...

Hi there-I think bags are becoming so much more expensive and out of reach for 'normal' people, hence the demise of the 'it' bag....

You are so right, the it bag is not so classy anymore...everybody wants to be Carine Roitefeld...who does not even use bags!

Well I'm not surprised and the focus on shoes obviously makes me happy. But I guess this could also happen to the "it shoes"!

I stick with a classic line bag... nothing trendy... I guess I'm not an it girl!

"It" anything - shoes & bags - are a bit overrated. I love classics =] But I still love the Fendi Spy & Paddington... =]

It bags are definitely going down the drain nowadays.I was happy about that because its an expensive thing to maintain. BUT the problem is that a new trend emerged which is the IT-shoe.

I'd rather have an It-Bag than an It-shoe because you can get more wear out of it, and you can wear it for more than one season and still be trendy. They also cost almost the same price nowadays!

I think it bags were half media and half our faults. Everyone wanted to be photographed with one and have one named after them--etc. And then people had like 10 bags over 1k each and didn't know what to do with them all. While shoes you always need and now that there is more importance on shoes, women can easily buy and dispose of them vs. a bag.

I wish that all "it" things would just die and people did their own thing.
