Vionnet at Les Arts Décoratifs

The exhibition of Madame Vionnet at Les Arts Décoratifs (rue de Rivoli, Paris) was disappointing. Last summer I visited the Valentino exhibition and honestly I was expecting to enjoy Vionnet's one even more, but I didn't.

I happened to be with an American friend who is not interested in fashion at all but was really looking forward to visiting it after having come to Valentino's one last year, from which she said she had really enjoyed it. She was disappointed too. I will upload pictures on saturday as I dont have a proper internet access now.
I couldnt tell why, it may be that the dresses were not as eye-catching as I had imagined, maybe the fabrics, maybe there were too many people (it was while the Haute Couture shows were taking place in Paris; so too many fashionistas there...). You can visit the exhibition until January 2010.

I'm shocked that you thought the exhibitiion was 'disappointing'. I visited it last month and was blown away by her collection!
The items in the exhibition showed true craftmanship and made me realise that fashion today has a lot to live up to. I think it is unfair to cmpare her clothes to that of Valentino... they are two completetly different designers from two very different era's. One post-war and one in the forever changing time that we live in now. Maybe you failed to notice the time and effort that went into the beautiful beading work (done before a time of computer aided design work)and her famous trademark.. the bias cut and how she introduced it in to the fashion world. Did you see both floors of her collection?
