Poncho

The poncho is a rectangular piece of clothing made of sheep, llama, alpaca or vicuna wool, with a slit in the centre to introduce the head. There are many different designs and colours, and normally it varies depending on the region and the people who used to wear it. Its outline can have fringes, trimming or stripes.

Ponchos hold an important part of Latin America's history. From Argetina to Mexico, they have been during centuries the coat of the Argentinian gauchos, Indians, Peruvians... Currently it is used by the farmers and also in the cities.

Chloé showed this amazing one in the S/S collection last month in Paris. Simple and minimalist, a must-have for this winter, even if it's spring/summer collection

El poncho es una pieza de ropa rectangular hecha de lana de oveja, de llama, de alpaca o vicuña, con un agujero en el centro para introducir la cabeza. Los ponchos presentan diversos diseños y colores, y normalmente varían dependiendo de la región y la gente que los solía llevar. Sus bordes pueden llevar adornos varios, como flecos o borlas.

Los ponchos representan una parte crucial de la historia de América Latina. Desde Argentina hasta México, los ponchos fueron y son una importante prenda de abrigo para los gauchos argentinos, los indios o los peruanos... A pesar de que Chloé presentó esta simple y minimalista versión del poncho en el desfile primavera/verano 2010, es un must para este invierno.
